Warriors and Warfare in the Ancient World

2 December 2021 - 4 February 2022

We are delighted to welcome you to our new gallery premises and our exhibition, Warriors and Warfare in the Ancient World.

War was an integral part of Bronze and Iron Age societies. This is evidenced by the art

and literature of the ancient world as well as the enduring stories of historic military

commanders such as Ramesses the Great, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Vercingetorix and Genghis Khan.

We have selected a range of artworks including Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Etruscan and Celtic to illustrate the pervasive nature of war in the ancient world and the neverending quest for territory, wealth, power, and victory.
