Literature

The Sabouroff Painter was named by Beazley after the former owner of a nuptial lebes gamikos now in Berlin (Antikensammlung acc. no. F2404.) The artist favoured painting cups and lekythoi, but also decorated a variety of other shapes. For further examples see pp. 837 ff. in J.D. Beazley, Attic Red-Figure Vase-Painters, Oxford, 1963. The Sabouroff Painter worked in white-ground and red-figure, however it is his white-ground lekythoi that are among some of finest works. For a similar example see, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, acc. no. 51.11.4: Beazley op.cit., p. 847, no. 203.
